Raffle Fundraiser

My dear artwife SparrowSalvage, without whose guidance I wouldn't even have a blog, much less this over-bloated sense of self, has been in a terrible and tragic car accident. She is going on her 3rd week in the hospital recovering from injuries. Her mother, with whom she lived, did not survive. She has a tough-as-nails attitude though and is just focusing on healing. On the plus side, she is lucky enough to live in Australia so she won't end up homeless for having the gall to survive a horrific crash. But we all know that a few weeks without working means no cash flow.

SO! I'd like to raffle off one of my pieces to raise some moo-la for her in case she wants to eat at some point, or some other such indulgence.

The tickets will be $4, and you get a free ticket if you comment with a link to where you blogged, tweeted, or facebooked about this, and provided a link back here for your various minions. Can you tweet a link? Who knows, I just blog because it's the only one of the 3 that allows you to make your space all purdy.
For all you gals who are broke-ish but want to do something- spreading the word to the etsy community would be better than gold. Though if you want to send some gold, you know, I won't refuse it.

This dainty choker has a strand of vintage nacre rosary beads, a strange little key, French art nouveau coin and a citrine sterling-dipped dangle which are all from Uruguay. The scrap of fabric was sent to me by Sparrow herself. It's adjustable from 18-20.5 inches.

Click this donate button or the one on the upper left sidebar to buy tickets. Please remember to donate in multiples of $4!

  20. Feel just awful for Sparrow. Knowing that you are doing this for her and that so many others care about her will surely help her recovery be a bit easier. How kind of you to support her in this way.

  21. It's so strange--I follow both your blogs and was wondering why Sparrow hadn't posted in awhile since she seemed to be a very prolific blogger from what I could tell. This explains it. My thoughts and prayers are with her. I will donate and spread the word with my Etsy friends.

"Every day may not be good but there is something good in every day." This is another case of finding 'something good'. The good hearts of all these fine folk willing to help is a definite 'something good'.
    Enjoy the day.

  25. Okay. Apparently, I can't read. Or it is late. And multiples of $4 is suspiciously like math. So I went back and donated more to make my total between the two donations equal multiples of $4!!! Sorry to be so daft...

    Enjoy the day.

  32. Oh my goodness when i read this my stomach went through the floor. I have long been a fan of her work, we are connected on blogs and Flickr and i almost feel like she's a friend. This is absolutely so tragic. I have facebooked this. What you are doing is so lovely. xx

  33. I don't have any cash, but am donating a necklace: http://www.etsy.com/listing/88785346/fundraiser-for-sparrow-salvage

all the cost of it will go towards her.

  34. So sorry hear about this, and reading this caused a very disturbing deja vu because of the parallels. See, there's this person whom *I* would refer to as my artwife, she's living in TX with her mom. And both of them have been in a car accident very recently. The car's wrecked, but both of them are fine. But it could have ended differently.

I tweeted about this (yes, you totally can tweet links), and will keep doing so. I do not do that "facebook" thing. No need to include me into the raffle.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh God, this is such a shock, but thank you for letting us know, Fanci. The raffle is a great idea, and I really think the necklace should rightfully go to Sparrow. I'll donate as much as I can, and spread the word in all my places.
You're the best kind of friend, and this is a lovely thing to do.

  38. This is so awful! I was recently in a car accident with my mother as well, so I definitely feel for Sparrow. It wasn't nearly as horrific, but wow.

I've posted a link to Facebook which then auto-posts to Twitter. I hope she recovers swiftly, and that you manage to secure enough funds for her to do whatever she needs.

  48. Thank you so much Fanci for doing this. Without your mentioning I'd not have known about Sparrow's suffering except for that I'd noticed her recent absence on internet. I sincerely wish that she will successfully reconcile such mental and physical pain as soon as possible. I'd donated a meagre amount via your link.

Being in the nursing field for so many years I developed a tough skin but never lost compassion for those in hardship! Cheers!

  61. I just donated, but please do not enter me in the raffle. My state has stupid laws about raffles, and it's not worth the trouble it could cause. The only thing that's important to me is to get some funds to Sparrow to help her weather this storm. I hope that knowing some people she's never heard of, halfway around the world, would care enough to do this for her, will help her feel better. If so, then mission accomplished.

    ReplyDelete
  62. So sorry to hear this, made a donation and will facebook and tweet your message. Please give Sparrow our love and tell her she is in our prayers...Marti C.

Can we still donate even though the raffle has been drawn?
